Blue II - Geometry

Date: Friday, July 1, 2022 - Friday, September 30, 2022

Artist:

Since the dawn of human civilization (the cave arts, ancient Egypt, ancient Greek, ancient Persia), geometry has been one of the most important motives in the decoration of ceramic works. And the geometric forms were frequently inspired by nature, but when applying these forms to describe a subject in artistic context, the complicated forms or curves are frequently abstracted away and replaced by simpler shapes such as polygons, circles, dots and lines.

It might seem a long walk in time from where we are now back to the very early stage of humanity, but the appeal of geometry has never weakened a bit, if not already flourishing towards a stronger presence. In this 2nd installment of the Blue exhibition series, we bring to the front two contemporary ceramic artists, whose mastery in geometric expression culminated in delicate art pieces from a composition of ultimately basic elements.
